BACKGROUND Marcus and his mother moved from Oaxaca to Acapulco in June of 1998. Maria Teresa soon met and married the policeman Gregorio Florez Ibarra, and in 2000 they had the twins, Teresa Maria and Tochtli Florez Alarcon. In January of 2004, during the prosecution of a drug cartel in which Marcus was a key witness, Gregorio was gunned down. The Florez-Alarcon family moved to Albuquerque, NM in the United States shortly after, where Marcus finished up high school. His social activism, working to place clinics in impoverished neighborhoods of Albuquerque, won him and his cohorts national attention, and the incredible murals he created to advertise the clinics arrested it. After graduating in 2007 with Honors in Spanish and Art, Marcus spent some time travelling the United States, installing exhibitions and guest-speaking in various locales on local-level social activism. He took a full ride scholarship to the California Institute of the Arts and studied their for 3 years, but in 2011, tragedy struck his family. His mother and the twins were 'deported' back to Mexico under highly suspicious circumstances. Following them almost cost Marcus his life and the lives of his family. A Visitation by Tezcatlipoca turned the odds in Marcus's favor, and with some help both governmental and supernatural, he was able to extract the twins. His mother remains missing.

Occupation Artist-Social Activist. Marcus is a very successful artist, with most of his framed work selling for between $700-$3,000. His murals have attracted bids between $30-$75 dollars per square foot; Marcus routinely donates 90% of the money made from murals to community health clinics and involves the community they benefit from conception to execution. He has also given frequent seminars on how the program works and jump started murals in over a dozen other sites throughout the United States. Besides the high school project, Marcus has personally created 8 more of these community mural projects; 3 in one crazy summer and fall. The most meaningful to Marcus, personally, is the Aztec creation story painted on the clinic of his old barrio in Acapulco, where his mother used to work. !Saludarte! as the program is called, has been Marcus's major project up to this time.
